1953 Chevy Gas Gauge Wiring

Gas Gauge on 1953 Chevrolet not working properly

I own a 1953 Chevy 3100 pickup. The fuel tank has been replaced and new gauges were installed. The fuel gauge does not register. When I turn the ignition key on, the gauge moves only a small distance. I removed the sendor and tested it outside of the truck. The float moves freely and the gauge then registers.
